Brasilia

Brasilia is a new city - one not intended at all for pedestrians. As a result I am going to refrain very much from describing our experiences here until we have a car. Finding a car here is not an easy task. The first one I test drove ran out of petrol, and I managed to break the handbrake cable of the next one. I'm hoping to have better luck soon, but we'll see. So far I've managed to do all my tax, police, bank and contractual bureaucratic requirements by bus, but it ain't easy and I have a mountain of important papers and stamped documents which have to accompany me to most places. Lectures are going ok - the students often laugh at my portuguese, which is fair enough, but I'll get my own back eventually. We're staying in a shared flat, with mainly latin american women, who are very keen on scrutinising our eating and drinking habits. They are all quite shocked by the amount of beer we consume, for which I am unwilling to make an apology. I will write more when I have more to tell and when we have a car and will have been to more exciting places. As for now I will leave you with pictures of the cars I have so far declined.....
